Itwillbeborneinmindthatdowntotheproductionoftheminiature，onthefifthdayofthetrial，IhadneverseentheAppearanceinCourt。Threechangesoccurrednowthatweenteredonthecaseforthedefence。TwoofthemIwillmentiontogether，first。ThefigurewasnowinCourtcontinually，anditneverthereaddresseditselftome，butalwaystothepersonwhowasspeakingatthetime。Forinstance：thethroatofthemurderedmanhadbeencutstraightacross。Intheopeningspeechforthedefence，itwassuggestedthatthedeceasedmighthavecuthisownthroat。Atthatverymoment，thefigure，withitsthroatinthedreadfulconditionreferredto（thisithadconcealedbefore），stoodatthespeaker’selbow，motioningacrossandacrossitswindpipe，nowwiththerighthand，nowwiththeleft，vigorouslysuggestingtothespeakerhimselftheimpossibilityofsuchawoundhavingbeenself-inflictedbyeitherhand。Foranotherinstance：awitnesstocharacter，awoman，deposedtotheprisoner’sbeingthemostamiableofmankind。
Thefigureatthatinstantstoodonthefloorbeforeher，lookingherfullintheface，andpointingouttheprisoner’sevilcountenancewithanextendedarmandanoutstretchedfinger。
